It's just what it sounds like; it's the "donations" they had to give back because people who intended to make a one-off payment discovered they'd unwittingly allowed recurring payments because they didn't notice the box was ticked by default.

Yup. It’s amazing how obviously dishonest this is. I’m pretty sure there would be criminal repercussions in the UK for something this extreme.
